Mercedes Benz Fashion Week to be held in Johannesburg

Date: 21 February 2013

The Mercedes Benz Fashion Week, a major event in the African fashion calendar, is scheduled to take place in Johannesburg from 7 to 9 March.

The event will be held at Mary Fitzgerald Square in Newtown, and is set to attract thousands of visitors to the city.

Johannesburg has not historically been viewed as a leisure tourism destination in South Africa, while it has developed a reputation as a commercial hub and is the destination of many business travellers to the country.

However, Johannesburg's reputation as a tourist destination is changing, and it is developing a reputation as a cultural hub, playing host to numerous live music and arts events in the inner city and in surrounding areas, which feature local and international artists, and attract visitors from across the continent.

The city also has a number of historically significant tourist attractions such as Constitution Hill, Gandhi Square and the nearby township of Soweto, as well as a number of excellent museums.
