British Airways Launches Flights from Johannesburg to Maputo

Date: 8 December 2012

British Airways, the United Kingdom's national flag carrier which is owned by Comair Limited, has announced that as from May 2013, it will offer flights from Johannesburg to Maputo.

The flights will offers passengers an additional travel option between OR Tambo International Airport in Johannesburg, and Maputo International Airport.

The airline will offer daily return flights between the two African cities, with two return flights on offer on Tuesdays and Saturdays.

This move is primarily aimed at satisfying the demand for flights by business travellers visiting the Portuguese-speaking country.

Comair also owns kulula.com which is its no-frills low cost carrier.  It is unclear, at this stage, whether any low cost options will be on offer for the Johannesburg-Maputo route.

Travellers currently have the option of flying to Maputo on South African Airways or LAM, and return flights cost in the region of R3500.
